Keep the right reference close

Find the exact model manual and organise the ownership information that remains useful after delivery.

A useful appliance manual belongs to an exact model. Find it before a question becomes urgent, and keep it where you can use it. The aim is a small, reliable reference set: the complete model identity, the correct document, the purchase and service information, and a clear way to contact the organisation responsible for the appliance.

Start with the complete model reference

Use the manufacturer’s own support resource and check the complete model designation. The GE GVS04BQNSS owner page is one example of a resource organised around a specific appliance, with a link to its manual. Follow the equivalent route for the product you own rather than choosing a document solely from a similar photograph.

Keep the model reference separate from the serial number and purchase details. The latter may be useful for private service enquiries, but they do not need to be included in general room-planning notes you share. Save the verified manufacturer link with your records so you can return to the source if a downloaded file becomes difficult to locate.

Check the document and its headings

Read the model coverage, document reference and relevant section headings before following instructions. A manual can cover several related products, and not every paragraph or diagram necessarily applies to each one. If the label on your appliance and the document do not clearly match, ask the manufacturer to identify the correct reference.

Keep the safety information with the operating and care sections. A short excerpt copied into a note can lose the conditions that explain its use. Bookmark the relevant page in the complete manual rather than separating a procedure from its context. If an instruction remains unclear, make that uncertainty a question for the responsible support team.

Match care information to the actual surfaces

The GE manual for the GVS04/GWS04 models provides specific care information for the cabinet, interior, controls and shelves. These sections illustrate why one general cleaning tip is not a substitute for the actual product guidance. Look for the corresponding information for the materials and components on your own appliance.

Follow the maker’s instructions and safety steps in full, and use appropriate qualified service when needed. Keep repair, electrical and refrigerant work with the responsible professionals. When seeking help, describe the exact model and what you observed rather than trying several unrelated remedies first. A clear description can make the support conversation more useful.

Keep a small ownership record

Save the manual link, purchase document and the service arrangement that applies to your appliance. Note who is responsible for an installation question and who handles product support. Keep those roles distinct from general editorial information. The most useful record is one you can find quickly and understand without reconstructing the original buying decision.

If the appliance changes location or ownership, make the appropriate documentation available and check the maker’s relevant guidance. Do not assume an earlier installation assessment applies to a different room. The placement guide helps organise the questions to revisit, while the original manual remains the reference for the actual product.

In a shared household, agree on where the reference is kept and how questions about the appliance will be handled. A clear model label in a household document folder can be more useful than a manual saved under an unfamiliar download name. Keep the record accessible to the people who use the appliance while protecting private purchase and service details.

Use the reference before making a change

Return to the correct document when changing a setting, considering a shelf arrangement or planning care. Read what the control or component does on your model before assuming it behaves like another appliance. If something appears damaged or a warning is present, use the manufacturer’s support and the appropriate professional rather than improvising a solution.

Keep the loading information with the operating reference and the original choice brief with your room notes. Together they connect the appliance’s purpose with its place and the information needed to use it. A clear ownership record turns the original research into something useful throughout the time the appliance is part of your home.
